Dr. Robert Thomas of Ashland, KY was a beloved family physician at OLBH since 1986. Because of his ongoing quest for knowledge, Dr. Thomas spent 25 years in academic settings earning several degrees. A two-time graduate of Morehead State University, he earned a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in animal physiology. In 1981, he received the Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition from the University of Kentucky and in 1983, he was awarded the M.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Upon his passing in 2010, the Tri-State Quality Health Network medical group decided to create a scholarship endowment in his memory for local residents who share his quest for knowledge. This scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to first year medical students from the Eastern Kentucky counties of Greenup, Boyd and Carter with a particular focus on Greenup County.
